Is Hiring a Professional Band Worth It?

It is not uncommon for a bride or groom to desire band entertainment at their wedding.  It is even less uncommon for a fiancée, parent, or friend to try and talk them out of hiring a professional one.  This may work out for some but on more than one occasion individuals have been very disappointed with their decision to downgrade and hire a lower quality band.

There is no doubt that some hobby bands are very capable and qualified to play certain events.  The problem is that these can be the exception, not the rule.  When someone hires their uncles’ band to play at a reception they really don’t know what they are going to get.  It could work out great; on the other hand, it could be an unmitigated disaster.

Hiring a professional band will guarantee that your guests are not going to be bored or irritated by whatever it is that the band is playing.  A professional band will have a great deal of experience not only playing but reading a crowd to modify the playlist accordingly.  Likewise, a professional band will also have a larger variety of music that they can play with assurance.

Another advantage to hiring professionals is that you have the safety of a contract.  When you book this type of band, you will work out every detail with them and it will insure that the timeline, cost and even the style of music is in writing.  You may even be able to ask for specific songs as professionals can usually learn a song or two upon request.

To give a complex question a short answer: YES, hiring a professional band is worth it.  If you can make a band work with your budget you won’t regret it.  People may remember the food, games, or decorations at your event, but you can be sure that what they will talk about after the fact is the music and dancing. A band will turn a great night into an unforgettable one.
